Personal:

Running is my first love, but I also enjoy rock climbing, lifting, biking, and swimming.

"Invictus" comes from my college class ring and this poem:

"Invictus"
By William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Ankle and knee were hurting yesterday, so I took the day off. Today I ran across the bridge and back. Felt good. Easy 7:45 pace. Cold, slight wind.

Just returning from an injury (stress fractures in my tibia and fifth metatarsal). Recovery has been slow. October was my last race (half marathon), and I had to defer Richmond (marathon). I spent four weeks swimming, three weeks cycling, two weeks ellipicaling, with a dash of climbing, skiing, and yoga.

January was spent trying to run (3-4 times a week, starting at 2 miles, up to 6). Tried doing some speed work, but I think I was getting too cocky. Need to ease off the speed and let my tendons and bones catch up to my muscles.

In February, I have done 4-6 miles on weekdays, taking rest as needed, with a few longer runs (7, 8, and 10.8 miles). Going to try adding speed work again soon. Ran in the snow today. Felt good.
